Zalakaros baths
This is not the closest bath to Fonyód, but as a family program it is one of the most secure choices. The road is about 50-55 kilometers by car, about 40 minutes by good traffic. This is not the distance you just jump over for two hours, but it's worth a whole day to get started.
Zalakaros' greatest virtue is not to choose between children and adults. Children get a real experience bath with slides, water cannons, showers, caves and multi-level children's worlds, while adults can relax in experience pools, thermal water or, with extra tickets, in the world of Medicine and Termalds. It's a rare place where family members of different ages not only tolerate the same program, but have a good chance of finding something in it.
In the summer, you really show me what you know. In the area of more than 10 hectares of landscaped beach, there is a wave pool, sports pool, paddlers, family pools and slides with different difficulties. For the smaller ones there is the Water Hippopotamus Children's World with more than 60 water attractions, and the larger can try out at Adrenalin Slide Park how brave they really are. The five large attractions include more than 100 metres of slide, light tunnel, rafting slide and kamikaze which can be reached at speeds up to 70 km per hour. Altitude and age restrictions are, of course, taken seriously, so children may not be able to use all slides.
In winter, there is a smaller open world, but the Zalakaros Bath does not become a boring seat pool. The covered children's world can be used throughout the year: slides, water games, hangouts and experience pools await their children inside. It also makes it one of the most powerful life belts on rainy day in Balaton, although the exact same thing happens to other families. In the wrong time, on weekends and during school breaks, you expect a bigger crowd, and if you can, come to open.
The thermal water here is not a marketing element created by an experience bath. Zalakaros was found in 1962during the hydrocarbon research, at a depth of approximately 2700 metres, with water of 96 degrees and mineral-rich. The bath opened in 1965 and has been officially recognised as a spa since 1978. So while children climb back to the top of the slide 20 times, adults can also use real spa services.
The entrance is not cheap, but it can be done compared to its size and offer. In the 2026 summer season and during other priority periods, the adult daily allowance is 7400, the 6-17-year-old is 6300, the 3-5-year-old child's ticket is 4400 HUF, and the doll mark of the three-year-olds is 400 forint. The daily allowance includes the use of basic indoor, experience and seasonal beach parts; a 2300 HUF additional ticket is required for the separate Healing and Termalworld. It is worth looking forward to which pools and slides operate, because the opening of outdoor attractions is influenced by both weather and season.
The car is easily available, there are several parking spaces in the area but from August 3, 2026 designated public parking areas around the bath are paid. For now, count 400 forints per hour or 3000 forint per day between 9: 00 and 18: 00.
The Zalakaros Bath is not a quiet, intimate spa hotel. Big, busy, sometimes extremely crowded, and for a family of four, admission won't be small money. In return, he gives us a program all day long, the kids are not bored, and adults aren't just taking part in this trip as a towel guard. It's fantastic in the summer, it's just great in winter and it could easily save the whole family's day in Balaton.
