Our opinion

It's a nice, low-key place and no effort at all. He's not trying to look like an aquapark, there are no giant slides, wave pools and all-day children's animations. The Chist Bath is a classic, old-fashioned thermal bath where people come primarily to sit in the warm water and have a nice chat and then, without any particular haste, they can move into another pool.

The audience is typically older, and the atmosphere is therefore peaceful and domestic. With children, it's only a good choice if they can appreciate the art of doing nothing. There is also a seasonal children's pool and playground, but let us be perfectly honest: this will not be the program that you will be thrilled to hear about tonight. But it is especially good for a quiet morning, rainy day in Balaton or the regeneration of adults who are tired of swimming.

The history of the spa is a classic Hungarian success story: in 1956, oil was sought at Nagerberek, but from 593 metres depth thermal water broke up to 42 degrees. No oil, but no bath. The locals started using water in the first summer, initially in a simple, ground-dug pool. The water from the well K-12 was later officially classified as medicinal water.

Water with slightly sulphur, aerated, alkali chloride and hydrogen carbonate may be useful primarily in the case of musculo-skeletal and rheumatic complaints, but it is also used for post-fracture rehabilitation and certain gynaecological and dermatological problems. We do not promise miracles, of course, but an hour or two in the water at 35 to 40 degrees can feel good even if you have no particular medical complaints.

There are a total of five, partially covered, partly outdoor pools in the bathroom. The water in the warmest seating pools can be up to 37-40 degrees, so it is not worth drinking in one place for hours: take a break, drink water and leave time for your body. Thanks to the indoor pools, Csist is not exclusively a summer program. It works all year round. Sauna, sun bed, massage, pedicure, buffet and coffee shop are also available and a restaurant can be operated in summer. The use of the sauna and sun bed is currently included in the price of the ticket.

Prices are indeed friendly compared to the Lake Balaton programmes. In 2026, the adult daily allowance is 3000, the pension ticket is 2700, and the 6-14 year pass is 2000 HUF. For the last three hours before closing, 1700 HUF afternoon tickets can be exchanged. The bath is open between 9: 00 and 18: 00 in the summer period, with shorter opening hours in winter. The reason to look at the current information before departure is because changes in seasons can change.

The car is about seven kilometers away from Fonyód and can now be reached on a paved road. If you make the trip a program, you can also come from Balatonpines with a small railway: the train runs through Nagyberek, along with pastures, reeds and buffaloes to Czista Bath. It's a slower but much more memorable solution - with children, it'll probably be the minivan itself, the most exciting part of the day.

Chist is not a modern spa, and he doesn't want to be. A bit retro, quiet, affordable and loveable. If you were to get out of the shower at Balaton by one morning, heat up your joints or simply sit in the water, it would be difficult to find a more honest place around Fonyód.
