Heviz is not an aquapark, it's a separate world. At the first moment, it may be strange: dark, peat water, lake-pouches on the surface, swimmers holding on to floating tyres and fine water floating over the lake. Then you go in there, let the hot water keep you, and in about five minutes you'll understand why people have been coming here for generations.
Lake Heviz is one of the most unique natural thermal lakes in the world, suitable for bathing. Its water surface is approximately 4.4 hectares and the source cave is nearly 38 metres deep. Thanks to its huge water yield, the entire water supply in the lake will be replaced approximately every 72 hours. The water can be up to 33-36 degrees in the summer, and it does not cool enough in winter so that it cannot be bathed. In the cooler air, it creates a atmosphere that a built pool could never imitate.
The depth of the lake varies between two and 38 meters, so you won't get a chance to set your feet down here. If you're not a confident swimmer, rent a swimsuit, and in fact, it's worth asking for one even if you swim well. It's not about the pace. You float, you look, sometimes you hold on to a railing, and then you let the water do its job. Swimming gum here is not a sign of weakness, it's almost part of the local folklore.
The medicinal water containing sulfur, calcium, magnesium and other minerals is used primarily for the relief of musculo-skeletal and rheumatic complaints and for post-operative rehabilitation. That doesn't mean you have to be sick to enjoy it, of course. However, it is worth paying attention to the fact that this is not an average beach pool: hot water can strain your body, so for the first time do not want to stay in it uninterrupted for hours.
With kids, it's not as sure a tip as Zalakaros. Bathing in a spa is not recommended for small children, and slides and water adventure parks are not recommended. In summer, there is a separate pool of children filled with normal water on the beach, but Heviz is basically about quieter bathing, floating and resting. A larger, well-floating child can be a special experience in common, but instead of a full day's family slide, choose Zalakaros.
About 49 km from Fonyód, available in about 40 minutes by car. The three-hour ticket is usually sufficient for the first meeting: in 2026, the on-site adult entrance is 4500, the whole day ticket is 7500 HUF. You can buy tickets online at a slightly cheaper price, currently for 4200 HUF and 7100 HUF. The lake bath opens at 8: 30 in the summer, the bathing time lasts until 6: 30.
It is important to present information that the central bath building standing on the lake is currently closed due to static problems, so in 2026 only outdoor swimming is possible. The main entrance, the summer beach building, the Festetics Bath, several covered resting areas and the outdoor coast are still usable, so the lake is not closed - only part of the usual services are limited. But in a sad or cold weather, you can't stay in the lake in a fantastic, stormy time.
The Hévíz Lake Bath is not necessarily the place where you run from program to programme from morning to evening. More like a two to three-hour break from the normal world. You're floating in warm water, you're looking at the tavirosa, there's steam all around you, and for a short time it won't matter if the sun is out there.
Miracle chair, no exaggeration. At least for once, everyone really should try it.
