Igal no longer belongs to the immediate vicinity of Fonyód. It's nearly 60 kilometers away, and it takes about fifty-five minutes by car, so we're not offering you a two-hour swim out of a sudden idea. It is worth leaving if you want to take a full day and change the atmosphere of Balaton for a while for a greener, quieter, real inner-somogyi bath experience.
Igal is family, but not insignificant. In the nearly five hectares landscaped area there are thirteen pools, which means you have a choice. Those who arrive for the medicinal water receive warm seating pools, those who want to move 33 meters of swimming pool, children get several paddles of different depths, and braver gets a 50-metre long three-track giant slide. It's not Zalakaros, and it's not trying to look like one, but it's big enough for a family not to finish the whole deal before lunch.
The indoor part can be used throughout the year. You can find water pools, a swimming pool and a special baby pool in it, so driving here on a colder or gloomy day is no use. In summer, outdoor swimming pools, children's and experience pools, slides, sports courts and large grass sunbathing areas are added. Some of the outdoor thermal pools also operate in winter; watching Somogyi hills from steaming water at snowy or hazy times is a particularly good experience.
The most important character in the bath is, of course, water. In Igal, they were originally looking for oil, but from a depth of 651 meters, thermal water at an extremely high mineral level broke to the surface. Water with alkali chloride, hydrogen carbonate and iodide is used primarily in musculo-skeletal, joint and rheumatic complaints and post-injury rehabilitation. There is also a real medical background behind the name of the spa: rheumatic order, massage, weight bath, mud treatment and more.
In the sauna world, there are two Finnish and two infrared satellites as well as diving pools. It is a good point that normal entrance includes not only the medical and beach part but also the unlimited use of the giant slide and sauna world. It's not self-evident these days.
The 2026 adult daily allowance is 4500, the entrance to over 60 years of age is 3900 and the 4-20 year ticket is 3500 HUF. The family tickets for two adults and two children under the age of 14 are 12 800 HUF, and there is free entry under four years. You can also buy a discount ticket this afternoon. In summer, the bath is open between 9: 00 and 20: 00. The rest of the year it closes early.
Igal has created a special genre of bathing programs. They regularly organise music baths, pool balls, family Sundays and night parties. The 2026 offer included Brazilian dance show, Mustang meeting, Wellness Party Dárido and a multi-day Beach Festival. It is natural here that in the morning, you still get your waist wet in the water, and then in the afternoon, there will be a fun show or a few thousand horsepower American cars. I'm not sure all programs are for everyone, but they can't be called boring.
One clarification is important: Igal from Fonyód to Fonyód is not literally on the way. For a direct journey home, it means about 60 kilometers, about an hour's detour. If you don't hurry, you can fit in as your own program for the last holiday day, but that's not what we'd choose to get home with quick Pest.
Yes, it's good for those who are willing to go a little further for a more human, less Lake Balaton bath. It doesn't shine as much as the big experience baths, but it's green, spacious, affordable and has its own character. The water is serious, the bath is quite large, and the programs are sometimes quite miraculously strange. That's what makes him lovable.
