If you choose one serious dinner in Fonyód, this should be the beginning of your list. The Kitchen Studio 365 doesn't play for the Lake Balaton medium, but it's not rigid, distant or tense. It's a serious restaurant, but there's still a happy direct place where the chef isn't a distant name at the bottom of the menu, but there's a good chance he'll come to you in person and tell you what he cooked, and apparently he cares how it tastes.
The story of the Sikra Gabis began in 2017 at a beach bistro in Balatonföld. The Kitchen has won the Beach of the Year competition twice, and in December 2021 they opened up the big brother of Fonyód designed for annual operation. The 365 in the name is not a coincidence: the goal was to eat really well in Fonyód, not only within a few weeks of summer season.
You did it. Michelin Guide has selected the restaurant for the recommended Hungarian locations on three consecutive occasions. This does not mean a Michelin star, but it is still very professional recognition: inspectors arrive incognito, pay the bill themselves and appreciate what actually goes on the guest plate. The description of Michelin highlights the bold taste, artistic presentation and genuine attention to guests of the modern Hungarian dishes of Gabriella Sikra.
The menu is deliberately short and constantly changing. They are not built on the safety of 40 different catches throughout the year, but for season, available materials and Gabi's current ideas. They work with Hungarian starting points, but something always happens to them: a familiar potion, paprika, Brassos or hiking dumplings arrive in such a way that they remain recognizable, yet there is an unexpected taste, consistency or presentation idea. The goal is not to rethink the food so much that no one knows what they're eating. Like Gabi said, cabbage noodles should stay cabbage pasta, just get something to remember them by.
The plates are spectacular, but they're not just for photography. The doses are not beach-sized, but they do not come from the fine dinning world where a secret flame is needed after dinner. In addition to meat and fish, it is usually vegetarian, often vegan, but because of the constantly changing supply, a special diet should be agreed upon when booking.
The location itself is a surprise. The restaurant is not in a romantic waterfront villa, but in the centre of Fonyód, on the third floor of Lake Balaton. On the outside, you might not know what's up there, but the terrace has a great view of the lake. It is worth timing dinner around sunset, but it is particularly important to book the table in advance.
The prices are, of course, higher than the average restaurant in Balaton. This is not a category of quick fried meat and a spruce, but a dinner that one sees as one of the holiday programs. In return, you will not pay for panorama, season and tourist traffic in addition to a medium meal, but you will receive real thought, quality materials and kitchen performance that is also accounted for by national professional guides.
My Kitchen's intimacy is as important as food. There are no measured movements and unnecessary rituals, but behind the plates there is very serious work. Szik Gabi is constantly spinning on new creations, and for now it really seems like she's having a hard time making mistakes.
If anyone, he put Fonyód on the Hungarian gastronomy. We are very happy that we do not have to travel to Fonyód, Badacsony or the north coast of Lake Balaton. You just have to go up to the third floor.
