In Fonyód, we can offer you a new-wave restaurant, which is listed nationally, but there are days when people want an interesting taste circle. It's a plate of wild goulash, a regular fish juice or a steak so large that the pear needs to be found in a separate place. The Tower Restaurant knows exactly how to do this genre.
According to our old memories in Fonyód, everyone here at the same time was considered German who did not say hello in Hungarian. This is, of course, a loveable local story rather than a hospitality rule, but it shows what the Tower meant to the holiday houses in Balaton: for many foreign guests, this is where meeting Hungarian cuisine began. Gulyas, pepper dishes, fish juice, roast, pickles and pancakes - all the things they imagined from a Hungarian restaurant.
The place has been doing a lot of work since then, and the menu has become more modern, but luckily the basic thought hasn't changed. The current offer includes fish juice made with catfish fillet, wild gums and deer with wild homemade napkins, duck claw cabbage, taryasteak and "plate" poppy crumbs. Chickens with peppers are currently not a permanent menu element, but on the weekends they regularly appear as domestic dishes from stalks to stuffed loops.
The Tower is not a fine dining, and it doesn't want to look like one. Classic restaurant with today's serve, nice plates and doses that you don't start to study where there's another flaming one open. In guest opinions, the same words come back over and over again: domestic, fast and abundant. This is not necessarily where you will find Fonyód's most experimental dishes, but if you arrive hungry, you will understand very clearly why it has worked so long.
The wide menu is particularly useful in families. If you want Hungarian food, you can have wild goulash or wild deer, who eats fish, finds a toothpick and fishery juice, and the less entrepreneurial family member can choose pizza, fried cheese or spaghetti from Bologna. There is a special menu for children, a lighter and vegetarian dish, and a two-person Tower bowl awaits the company with more serious appetites. This rarely leads to a family crisis during vacation when everyone else eats, but no one wants to go to three separate places.
You can find it in the Belatland on Sailing Street with a huge free parking lot, three shadowy terraces and playground. You can also come with a dog: the Tower is an animal-friendly place, which can be particularly useful on your way home from a nearby dog bath. It is also a good choice for larger companies and family events, because it has several separate rooms in addition to the terraces.
Prices follow today's Lake Balaton restaurant level: the soups are around 2500-4000, the main dishes typically move around 500-6200 forint, and the two-person Tower bowl is currently 12 990 HUF. It's not a cooking price, but at least you don't have to use a magnifying glass to find out exactly what you paid for. You can order delivery and house delivery, which sometimes saves the whole family after a long beach day.
The Tower does not want to reinterpret the Hungarian cuisine. It simply keeps the type of restaurant in Balaton that has a good time with grandparents, children, foreign holiday homes and dogs. It is a classic place, it has become more beautiful and modern, but it continues to keep its most important promise: there is a good chance that no one will leave here hungry.
