In the case of the Szaploncay Café, you should immediately clarify what to expect: the supply and, in fact, the whole menu is brutally oldschool. This is not the center of the Lake Balaton coffee revolution, they're not experimenting with the latest stew, and you probably won't be taking home photos of the most perfect milk brosetta of summer.
Coffee's fine, though. They reach back to reliable Italian roots: Illy is used, and they also use a properly adjusted machine, so the final result is correct, classic Italian coffee. He doesn't want to look more than what he is, and maybe that's why it works. Along with cakes, ice cream and cold drinks, it provides exactly what may be needed in the middle of a comfortable afternoon.
However, the real main character of the Szaploncay Café is not the menu but the location. At the edge of the high bank in Fonyód, it stands about 70 metres above Lake Balaton, right next to the Museum of Fonyód and the historic colonial villa. The panorama opens in a clear time from the Keszthely Mountains to the Badacsony and the Witnesses to Tihany. There are few cafés at Lake Balaton where there will be such a clear view of the order.
The café opened in 2023, together with the development of the renewed Szaploncay promenade. His name was given to him by the local voters' vote on Saploncay Mano, the officer general of Somogyi, whose initiative at the end of the 19th century began with a garden fork and its associated promenade. The 800-metre walk is still one of the most beautiful parts of Fonyód, with old villas, lion stone benches, the statue of Mariana and signs showing the mountains on the other side.
The best program we can think of is not that they "went for coffee on purpose." Why don't you walk down the high bank, look into the museum, and then sit here for a drink? It is especially late to arrive in the afternoon: you may not get the most beautiful latte art in Fonyód, but one of the most beautiful views or sunsets is very likely.
