M You'll find it on a map as a city beach. But for the locals, it's just Tungi.
The name remained with us from the time when the beach was still a beach of Tungsram's social resort. The company resort has since disappeared, but the name has survived: we use it so naturally that sometimes we have to think separately about whether or not our guest is aware of what we are talking about.
Now you know. Be local, call him Tungi.
The beach is located between the centre of Fonyód and Belatelep, on the sailing street. It is easy to walk from the Catholic church: it is a very pleasant walk down, and on the way back, the ascendant reminds me more honestly that Fonyód has mountains. It is also easy to reach by bicycle, the Lake Balaton cycling road passes right before the beach.
It's more complicated in the summer by car. There are also free parking places near the beach, but their number is finite and the approach is not as obvious as Panorama. This may appear to be a disadvantage at first, but it is in fact partly the one that keeps Tungi's calmer, more local atmosphere. The great tourist price will mostly remain on the Panorama beach near the railway station and the boat port.
Tungi is not empty and unknown - it's very busy in other ways. This summer, the Buddapestans meet each other. Someone comes in with a towel, talks to three friends in five minutes, and ten minutes later we find out who's retired, whose guests are here, and which buffet is better that day. It's not an organized community program, it's just how a real local beach works.
The beach about 400 metres long is large enough to be divided into the company during the main season. There are grass and built-up parts, more sunny areas, and shadowy spots under trees. Not every square metre is a carefully composed beach set, but that's what makes it natural. You can settle in with family all day, go swimming by yourself or just sit on the beach for an hour.
The water is gradually deepening. In one part of the beach there is a cove more closed, even separated by rope, which families with little children like and in other areas the people who want to swim find suitable water. The coast is made up of sandy and built-up parts, the official qualification for bathing water is excellent. The smaller ones also have a playground and a sandbox.
For those looking for sport, you can find beach volleyball, foot tennis and teakball courts and ping-pong tables. In the summer around these games are easy to play, where enthusiasm is usually more important than understanding rules. If you don't have company, there's a good chance you'll find someone who can get in or who's missing another player.
The beach has two buffet rooms. So you don't have to carry every bottle of water, coffee and beach lunch with you, but there's not a whole range of restaurants as big as the port area. This is also part of Tungi's rates: there is a choice, but the main role remains for Balaton.
Right next to it is the Kayak-Kenu Point, where you can rent kayak, canoe, SUP, surfski and even ten dragon ships. According to the 2026 briefing, one single kayak is 1200 forint per hour, a double HUF 2000, SUP and surfski 1500 forint per hour, and the dragon ship is 8000 forint per hour. With Fonyód Card, the locals get a 50% discount. The rental company typically operates between 9: 00 and 19: 00 in the main season, but it is worth checking the current opening before departure.
There is also a new bathroom for free at the kayakhaza, and there is also a dressing room, shower, bicycle storage, diaper and free wifi on the beach. The beach itself is freely accessible throughout the year and there is no need to pay for entry.
Tungi is not the most modern beach in Fonyód - it is Panorama. Not the longest - that's Arpad Beach. It's not the quietest little place to hide, but there's Huska. Still, it would be hard to say the bustest beach.
It's not necessarily because, based on a comparative table, the locals come here to win the most points. They come because they've always been here. Because they know the trees, the beach, the buffet and each other. Because this is where you can spend a summer afternoon without a special program.
