Who built the Krypta villa?
The house is linked to Rediger Ökön, Abrudánya, who also happens in the form of Abrudminay Öd. The local historical summary of Lajos Gyürüs presents several stages of Pécs's life: in 1924 he opened the St. Stephen pharmacy on Zsolnay Vilmos Street. According to the article, the building in Fonyód was built by Pécs construction master Sándor Cherna and the construction started in 1941.
According to the information, the building would have had several tasks: a residential space, a room dedicated to the memory of Magdus and a family burial ground. This is an important difference compared to a building intended for purely spectacle: privacy and memory met in the same house. The central motif of the lower space is the stone composition representing a lying lovers' couple. The city's description identifies red sandstone as a matter of bed and shape.
The place is connected with a love legend, which means that couples who hold hands at statues will stay together forever. Of course, this is a legend worth reading. The power of the story is that it places a very visible, accessible place for a difficult feeling - to preserve the memory of the lost partner.
Visiting doesn't require a romantic vow. It can be just as interesting to observe how a man's personal loss tells a local story. Whose love couple remains in her memory, whose integrity is the building, and the tension between them.
Is it a real tomb or a symbolic crypt?
According to the old Pécs summary, no one was buried here: the planned family pension remained symbolic. The author also refers to the lack of a burial permit; the city guide identifies war as an impediment to the transfer of ashes. The two descriptions differ, so we do not simplify the story for a single reason.
The name "crypt 'is therefore easily misleading in itself. The centre of the visit consists of memory space and sculpture group. It is also worth saying in advance, coming with a child: the history of this place is about loss and not everyone is affected in the same way.
Why are there two types of years in the descriptions?
The city page refers to 1940, while the local historical summary and Kapos.hu news links construction to 1941. On the basis of the available summaries, this cannot be resolved without any doubt. With safety, we can place the villa in the early 1940s; of these two years, we do not choose simply to make this story look simpler.
There is also a discrepancy in the description of materials: the city side refers to red sandstone, a 2026 tourist report with marble. Here, we follow the city's description and indicate the difference. With such small differences, it is worth looking at the resources in addition to short, repeated legends.
Renovation and role of the villa
The important stage of the tourist role of Kripta-villa today is the refurbishment in 2017. M Kapos.hu News on May 14, 2017 It has reported a renewal of HUF 30 million gross from tender sources. Then Molnár mentioned a Star Exhibition and coffee shop in the building.
This is historical data, not a list of current exhibitions. A previous article does not indicate that years later the same exhibition is visible. This is why the villa should be chosen as a separate monument, and to ask about temporary or supplementary attractions separately.
