The Szaploncay promenade is a pleasant walk away: walking down the old villas, the road itself is part of the program. The beach is a little further from the centre of Fonyód, which is exactly why we like it. It's less crowded, more wood and shadows, and it's easier to find your own place on a long, multi-partitioned coastline on even busier days.
Water is one of the biggest specialties of the beach in the Belatfalu. On the south coast it is rare to be able to swim after a few meters, but here you will find several stages where Lake Balaton goes down faster. You don't have to walk all the way up to Badacsony to get the water to your shoulder. Swimmers especially appreciate it, but little children don't have to give up on the beach: there is a shallow, sandy, pebble area where you can swim more comfortably. It is therefore worth looking around for a while and choosing the coast that suits you best.
The beach is long and varied, the area is divided by a smaller port. There are large, sunny grasses, but under the old trees there is a great shadow - provided that everyone arrives not at noon. The environment is much more reminiscent of the beach at an old beach in Lake Balaton than a crowded, loud experience bath. There are no giant slides and all day long screaming programs, but there is Balaton, grass, shadow, port, and the kind of peace many people come to in the first place.
In the meantime, there is no need to think about nomadic conditions: there are also buffet, bathrooms, dressing rooms, playground and sports facilities. You can play beach volleyball, football, ping pong, and you can also go on the water with a water bike, kayak or SUP. There is also an obstacle-free bathroom and a ramp for access to water, while the children are waiting for a beach with sand, changing diapers and paddling. I mean, you really do have everything you need for a day's beach, but they don't put neon in your face.
The stars of the Blue Wave Flag can change year after year. In 2024, the Belatelő beach received four stars and three stars on the 2026 rating. It is important that this is not simply a classification of water purity: the jury assesses the entire range of services from bathrooms and locker rooms to accessibility, parking and access. The official bathing water certification of the beach is nevertheless excellent.
You can find a free car park nearby, but on the warmest weekends it is not bad to arrive here in time. However, it is almost impossible to swim by train more comfortably: the Bélatelep stop is practically next to the beach. You land, and by the time you decide which way to go, you're almost there.
The Belatfalu is not the most central and loudest beach in Fonyód. In return, it offers spacious, green, free, well-used water and surprisingly fast from the south coast. If the Panorama beach is the summer stage of the city, Bélatelep is a calmer side stage that has long been held by returning guests and locals. That's exactly why we love him.
