The ballads of János Golden are alive in acting performance, with the help of a jazz singer at Feng Shui Gallery. In the selection of Ágnes Linka, Zsolt Brunner and Zsolt Siposhegy, the jazz singer Raczkó Enikő summons the darkest stories of Hungarian literature. Access is free of charge.
On the 20th of August, we usually talk about state foundations, holiday bread, concerts and fireworks. The Feng Shui Gallery instead offers sin, punishment, madness, silent secrets and rather serious human destiny. This is not necessarily the first thing that comes into our minds about this party - and perhaps exactly what makes one of the most exciting programs of the evening in Fonyód.
"A terrible crime, a pregnant charge..." musical literary event called "The selection of Ágnes Linka from the ballads of John Gold." The title is Mrs Agnes It comes from a line, a ballad in which guilt ultimately denies a more serious sentence than any human court. The story of the woman who is obsessed with washing her sheets may be familiar to everyone from school, but here we can see her as not a mandatory reading, but as a live dramatic presentation.
His gold ballads are in fact short, compressed psychological cronies of Hungarian literature. In a few verses, sin occurs, the charge is made, a human mind falls apart, or the fate of all life turns in an irrevocable direction. A lot of things are not said openly, and the missing details have to be put together by the reader - this evening by the viewer. For this reason, these stories continue to work surprisingly hard and modern.
The evening is not a traditional reading. Marta Brunner and Zsolt Siposhegy will give the ballads a voice, face and personality in their performance, and with the help of Jazzó Raczko's jazz singer, the song and music will be accompanied by music. According to the earlier lectures, the selection will make the world of Gold alive in dramatic form, with musical accompaniment and songs. Somewhere along the lines of theater, literary night and concert, where none of the genres are just adorned next to each other.
Márta Brunner brings decades of stage experience to the performance, and Zsolt Siposhegy acts as a prose and also as a contributor to musical literary shows in this world. Raffó Enikő, as a jazz singer, can give the classic texts a different emotional color than we used to do at a traditional special event. Together, the three rapporteurs do not want to analyse ballads, but rather show how much tension, drama and music they have.
The performance can also be a good choice for those who love John Gold and for those who, for some reason, failed to like him at school. In fact, perhaps the latter in particular. It is quite another experience to meet these stories without looking for a rhyme formula, listing genre features or writing a paper. Enough to watch and let the story work.
Teenagers are worth coming with, especially when they're meeting their golden ballads at school. However, the subjects of this performance are not children's tales: murder, jealousy, guilt, psychological collapse and death. We prefer to recommend it to bigger children and adults.
The direct space of the Feng Shui Gallery on a human scale can be particularly good for this performance. Here there is no great stage and a safe distance between viewers and performers: text, eyes and music come close. Since the gallery is not a huge event hall, it is worth arriving before 18: 00.
The program takes place in an indoor location, so it is a safe choice in the rain and heat, and entry is free of charge. Before the later concerts and outdoor events of the holiday evening, this could be a more serious, darker and more reflective opening of the day.
