On the evening of August 20th, almost all Lake Balaton settlements look in the same direction: towards the sky. The ports and coastal promenades fill with people, the boats slowly calm down, then the first explosion arrives and the lake lights up.
In Fonyód, this evening has long been one of the most awaited moments of summer. The vicinity of the port and Vigadó Square is filled with families, holiday homes, friendly companies and returning guests long before the start. Everyone's looking for the best place, the ice cream coming in, the phones come out, and every ten minutes, the kids ask how much more is left.
That's exactly what makes the evening feel like. Fireworks in Fonyód are not only a half-hour spectacle, but also a real community event: the biggest meeting of one of the major weeks of summer on the shore of Lake Balaton.
At 10: 00 p.m., the sky goes dark and the show starts. The missiles rise above the port, and the lights reflect from the surface of the lake. For a moment you can see the water, the other side, the silhouette of the surrounding mountains and the whole celebration of Fonyód. Spectacular, colorful, very loud and completely elemental experience.
Fireworks on the 20th of August in Balaton have a special atmosphere. In the villages of the north and south, the lights are lit up one by one, and sometimes in a clear time there is a celebration of another city from the far points of the lake. The water multiplies colors, and the port becomes a natural auditorium. This is difficult to return in a photograph - you have to stand on the beach when your first light kiss takes off.
The most complete experience is clearly given by the port of Fonyód and its surrounding area in Vigado Square. It's worth preparing for a lot of people, a lot of fun and a real holiday atmosphere. If you want a good spot, come early and try not to find a parking spot at the last minute.

Important: this program is specifically not a dog friend. The explosions are extremely loud, and a large mass is expected at the port. There's no way you and a dog are offering to take part in the field. The four-legged guests should have a quiet, safe place in the apartment for this evening, preferably with closed windows and a person they trust.
The 20th of August week is one of the most sought-after periods in Balaton, and the Fonyód fireworks are the highlight of the holiday evening. It's gonna be a lot of people. It's gonna be loud.
