Advent by boat, with festive events in three towns: on Saturday 12 December 2026, Fonyód, Balatonlelle and Badacsony are preparing for a shared celebration of the Christmas season. Conceived and organised by Balázs Tóth, the initiative connects the two shores of Lake Balaton, with BAHART boats running between the venues according to the published timetable.

The Balatoni Advent boat timetable is here! On 12 December 2026, three Advent markets, two special boats and winter views of Lake Balaton await.

There is something special about heading to a Balaton harbour in December. The light over the lake changes, the opposite shore takes on a different character, and amid the Christmas rush there is suddenly time to look around. This year, a shared journey adds to the experience: from Fonyód and the other participating towns, we can explore Advent on Lake Balaton by boat.

The initiative is already attracting considerable interest. Three well-known Balaton destinations are joining forces so visitors can experience several festive settings on a single December outing. If you are looking for Advent activities by the lake, mark the date in your calendar.

You can start planning the day with family or friends now, but choose individual boat trips around the published timetable. Linking the three destinations is the central idea; the sailing times and local programmes will determine the most comfortable order and how many stops you can visit.

What makes this shared Balaton Advent special?

Advent markets and winter activities are already good reasons to visit Lake Balaton. The 12 December initiative adds another possibility: connecting the three towns’ programmes by boat. Departing, spending time on the water and arriving at another harbour can all become part of the festive experience.

The day will particularly appeal to those who enjoy combining different experiences. A lakeside walk, a visit to an Advent market, ice skating and winter views can make a rewarding outing. There is no need to fill every minute: a quiet conversation or lunch together deserves a place too.

The towns’ different settings add to the appeal. Fonyód’s panorama, Balatonlelle’s southern-shore atmosphere and Badacsony’s wine country reveal different sides of the same lake. In December, they may feel like new discoveries even if you know them from summer.

Advent in Fonyód: lakeside atmosphere, ice skating and views of Badacsony

According to the public announcement, Fonyód will participate with a winter lakeside atmosphere, Advent activities and an artificial ice rink. The town can be a convenient starting point for visitors arriving from the southern shore who also want to enjoy Fonyód’s views.

Views of Badacsony from around the harbour provide a memorable backdrop to a winter walk. Pause by the water and make the wait for your boat part of the outing. On December days when darkness falls early, it is especially worthwhile leaving time to enjoy the landscape rather than rushing between activities.

If you plan to skate, check the operator’s latest information for opening hours, admission and skate hire on 12 December. Participation in the Advent event and a boat ticket do not automatically include every service at the venues.

To extend your day, explore our Fonyód in winter guide, and for more family ideas, our guide to family activities in Fonyód. These can help you plan a flexible day if you decide to stay longer in Fonyód.

Advent in Balatonlelle: family activities and Christmas atmosphere

According to the announcement, Balatonlelle will join the initiative with family activities, Advent market atmosphere and an artificial ice rink. This stop lets you experience the Christmas preparations in another southern-shore town.

Families may particularly enjoy an outing that alternates activity with browsing. A walk after the boat journey, with time for rest and meals between programmes, can work well. Once the detailed programme is available, choose activities suited to your children’s ages and your group’s pace.

Together, Balatonlelle and Fonyód show two different faces of the southern shore. The shared Advent event is also a chance to step beyond familiar routes and get to know a neighbouring town.

Advent in Badacsony: the hill, the lake and winter wine country

Badacsony complements the shared Advent with its dramatic meeting of hill and lake, alongside the announced food and cultural offerings. A December boat trip brings you closer to the hill so often admired from Fonyód’s shore.

This northern-shore stop may particularly appeal to visitors who want to combine the festive atmosphere with exploring wine country. Wait for the organisers’ detailed programme before choosing restaurants, tastings or cultural events; do not build the day around assumed performers or opening hours.

Plan your Badacsony walk around your boat’s departure. Only venture farther from the harbour if the timetable and available time comfortably allow it.

Balatoni Advent boat timetable – 12 December 2026

Departure times have been published: you can travel in four directions between the Advent markets in Balatonlelle, Fonyód and Badacsony. The poster names two boats: the Balaton catamaran and the Szigliget motor vessel. It does not specify which vessel serves each departure.

From Balatonlelle you can discover the festivities in Fonyód and Badacsony; from Fonyód, services run towards both other Advent destinations. Tickets are sold separately for each leg, letting you plan the day at your own pace.

A relaxed outing from Fonyód: one possible itinerary

The 12:00 boat from Fonyód should reach Badacsony at approximately 12:25–12:30. Returning on the 16:00 departure should bring you back to Fonyód around 16:25–16:30, giving you more than three hours on the northern shore. This is an itinerary suggested from the timetable, not an organised package; adapt it to local programmes and ticket availability.

Balázs Tóth and the towns’ partnership: a shared commitment to winter at Balaton

The event was conceived by lead organiser Balázs Tóth, whose work has long focused on winter leisure at Lake Balaton. His involvement with Fonyód’s ice rink also reflects the idea that the lakeside can be an appealing meeting place during the colder months.

On 12 December, that idea becomes a joint undertaking by several towns. Fonyód, Balatonlelle and Badacsony each contribute their own character, while the boats connect the festive venues. Visitors can experience both the towns’ differences and the bonds between the communities around the lake.

This cooperation is especially fitting for Advent. Personal attention, hospitality and time together gain importance in the lead-up to Christmas. Such an event also creates opportunities for towns to meet: crossing the lake, arriving as guests and discovering what neighbours have prepared.

Cooperation between the towns and the boat operator is central to organising the event. Its value lies in helping visitors explore the venues as part of a manageable outing and inspiring them to return.

Strong interest in the Balaton Advent event on 12 December

Interest in the event suggests that many people are looking for distinctive winter experiences by Lake Balaton. Combining Advent with a boat trip can appeal to families, groups of friends and anyone planning time together in December.

How to plan an Advent outing from Fonyód

With the boat timetable published, you can put together a specific itinerary. Choose your return first, then allow time for the markets and getting to the harbour. Decide whether the day should focus on sailing, skating, browsing the markets or relaxed family time.

  1. Choose your starting town. Fonyód can be a good choice if you want to begin with winter views and the local Advent atmosphere.
  2. Choose sailings from the timetable above. Plan separate tickets for the outward journey, return and every additional leg.
  3. Allow time to reach the harbour. Leave a comfortable margin between local activities and departure.
  4. Plan breaks and meals. A break somewhere warm is welcome during an outdoor December outing.
  5. Check the latest announcements before leaving. Adjust your plans using current event, sailing and weather information.

Dress in layers for winter lakeside walks, with comfortable shoes, a hat and gloves. Be prepared for chilly air during the journey and while waiting at the harbour. This is general outing advice; check the forecast for 12 December closer to the event.

Enjoying the shared Advent with children

Boarding a boat can be exciting even for the youngest visitors. Adapt the length of the day to them: a shorter trip and two leisurely stops can make a rewarding outing. For pushchairs, special dietary needs or accessible travel, check the conditions at the specific venues and on the boats beforehand.

Accommodation in Fonyód for the December Advent weekend

If you are travelling from farther away or would like another day of Balaton activities, consider staying in Fonyód. You can turn the outing into a full December weekend and leave time to explore the town more thoroughly.

When choosing an apartment, consider bedroom arrangements and location as well as group size. A hillside apartment with views and a short, level walk offer different advantages. Request availability and prices for your own dates.

Explore our Fonyód apartments, or, if travelling with family, our family-friendly accommodation guide. If bringing a dog, check the boats’ and event venues’ own rules as well as the accommodation’s pet policy.

More experiences in wintertime Fonyód

A second day can complement the Advent event on 12 December. A relaxed walk, scenic views or a local café or restaurant can round off the festive programme. Always check opening hours for your actual visit.
